Course Description:
This is a training designed to satisfy IL training requirements for all health professionals, with content that specifically addresses sexual misconduct in the field of mental health. Sexual Harassment in the workplace is costly and damaging to both employers and employees. Not only would sexual harassment pose a risk of legal cost, but the human cost is also the most devastating. This one-hour training covers the legal and ethical guidelines of sexual harassment prevention and the required steps for employers to address ongoing harassment. Furthermore, the instructor will cover specific boundary-crossing issues in the mental health field that affect patients, clients, supervisees, and the “slippery slope” that led to these violations. Remedies and legal procedures available to victims will be covered.
Course Learning Outcome Objectives:
Participants will be able to define sexual harassment outlined by the Illinois Human Rights Act;
Participants will be able to compare various types of sexual misconduct and warning signs pertinent to mental health professionals.
Participants will be able to critique Ethical Standards regarding sexual relationships and sexual harassment pertinent to clients and supervisees.
Participants will be able to assess the types of conduct that may constitute unlawful sexual harassment;
Participants will be able to define Federal and State statutory laws concerning sexual harassment, including naming remedies available to victims.
Participants will be able to name employer responsibilities in the prevention, investigation, and corrective measures of sexual harassment.
Shan Ru Lin, LCPC, ATR-BC, ATCS
Course Instructor Bio:
Shan Ru Lin is a Certified Sexual Assault Counselor, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), a Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and a Certified Art Therapy Supervisor (ATCS) in Chicago, Illinois. Trained in EMDR for trauma therapy, Shan has a long history of working with women, adult and childhood sexual assault survivors, marginalized populations and those most impacted by the lack of social justice. She has worked with women, adults, and children with a history of trauma in the community, medical, and educational settings. Shan currently works as a counselor, art therapist, educator, and clinical supervisor in private practice. She is the founder of Spring Advisory, a consulting firm focused on providing mental health services and serving the mental health professional community. with over 15 years of experience in trauma-focused therapy and over 7 years of supervisory experience. She holds an MA in creative arts in therapy from Drexel University.
How to Get Your CE Certificate After Completing The Course:
Please fill out a course evaluation and pass the post-test exam by 80% score or more. Your certificate will be issued to you after passing the exam. You can retake the exam if you do not pass.
ILLINOIS GENERAL ASSEMBLY: Starting from January 2023, all health professionals licensed under IDFPR must complete required CE training in the areas of sexual harassment prevention, implicit bias awareness training, Alzheimer’s and dementia training, and mandated reporter training.
IL Public Act 102-0399 requires all health care professional who has continuing education requirements to complete a one-hour course in training on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias per renewal period.
