Illinois Psychologist Implicit Bias Awareness Training CE FAQ

Implicit Bias Awareness training is one of the mandated continuing education (CE) topics required for Illinois Licensed Clinical Psychologists (LCP) and Prescribing Psychologists (RxP) as part of the 24-hour CE requirement each license cycle.

Based on Illinois Administrative Code
68 Ill. Admin. Code Section 1130.500, an 1-Hour Implicit Bias Awareness Course is:

Required for All Healthcare Workers

All health care professionals holding one of 38 listed licenses, including clinical psychologist, must complete a 1-hour implicit bias awareness training course.

Include Mandated Course Content 

The course must cover four minimum topics: the definition and distinction between explicit and implicit bias, the causes of implicit bias, its effects and harms, and methods for recognizing, interrupting, and mitigating it.

A Repeated Requirement for Every Renewal

Completion is a condition of license renewal and must be repeated every renewal period; the requirement has applied to renewals occurring on or after January 1, 2023.

Ok to Take One For All of Your IL Licenses

A licensee holding multiple covered licenses may apply one completed course toward the requirement for all of them, without retaking the course separately for each license.

Yes. Illinois Licensed Clinical Psychologists must complete 1 hour of Implicit Bias Awareness training as part of the 24-hour CE requirement each license cycle.
